For a prosumer home user or an everyday small business, the 1 disk in the UDMP is probably sufficiently reliable sans RAID. If your footage is so important that you can't withstand losing it once every 5 years to a disk failure, RAID will still not offer sufficient protection as data loss could occur for many other reasons, you need a surveillance NVR solution that supports actual backups, probably both local and offsite, if your surveillance needs are so critical. If you're a person who needs security camera footage of their property/business and can't withstand losing the footage about every 5 years, IMO the UDMP is entirely the wrong product for you, at minimum you should be using the UNVR or more likely a third-party solution. Modern hard drives are pretty reliable, if you get a proper surveillance drive rated for being under load 24/7/365, it should probably last about 5 years. IMO there are very few cases where this is necessary, for people buying a UDMP. People improve their skills and understanding through constructive feedback. Remember that the people posting here are real human beings possibly trying to learn and dive into the world of networking.
